Waschtag means “the day of the
washing “ in German. It is the name of a
project that won the Architekture and Wohnen magazine prize in Cologne
in year 2000. Six European groups organized this exhibition in the
occasion of the annual Cologne furniture fair.
El ultimo grito, Dumoffice, Glassex, GRUP, Kombinat and N2 worked
together to present each one a project under the same roof and theme.
It was more than a design project; it was an experiment between young
designers.
Karen Chekerdjian, founder of GRUP, invited Veronique Demaret, Pascal
Tarabay, and Catalina Tobon to explore the theme from a very Middle
Eastern point of view, working on the traditions of the “hammam”. The
project was an attempt to create a new typology in the bathroom world
of product. They created a “platform”, to be used in any part of the
house. A platform to sit, to eat, read; watch TV, meanwhile using your
washing basin. The platform contains the basin and a comfortable chair.
The idea of confining the washing action to the bathroom could evolve
and invade your bedroom for example. Our contemporary habits are not
final. The history of house has evolved so much and we tend to forget
it. |
