Karen
Chekerdjian was born in Beirut-Lebanon. She has studied film
direction at the ESRA School in Paris. She worked in an advertisement
company H&C Leo Burnett Beirut for some years before opening her
communication and graphic design company, Mind The Gap. She was a
self-taught graphic designer. She than sold the company and left Beirut
to study Industrial design in Italy.
She holds a Master in product design and design direction from the
Domus academy in Milan (1997) under the supervision of Massimo Morozzi
(ex-Archizoom). She has worked as a designer in Milan for a number of
years. One of her first design product “Mobil” was edited by an
important Italian furniture company EDRA. She was selected for many
international exhibitions: Utopi-Copenhagen, Beyond the Myth-Europe,
Promosedia 2007-Milan, Northern Lights-Tokyo, ECHO-Beirut…). She
presented her work many times in New York ICFF, in Milan Salone del
Mobile, in Cologne Mobelmesse and in Paris Furniture Fair.
She opened in 2007 a design retail store in Beirut. She founded Karen
Chekerdjian Studio and Consultancy . She is currently producing her own
furniture and products in Lebanon, experimenting with local know-how.
